Guys,

I have a mini-14 old style (183 serial) that uses the side mount... i've heard that they are not too good.

Since this is an accurized mini (under an inch) I was wondering if it was possible to modify the receiver to install a picatinny rail or similar? Are there any other options you would recommend?

any experiences?

Any info appreciated

Install a Ruger to weaver adapter from either Burris or B Suare then you can use Weaver type rings. With some older model Mini-14's the eject angle is fairly high so the ejected casing may hit your scope if it sticks out too far to the right side. Call me at the shop (780)420-6419 if you cant find these mounts in your area.

Sorry just realized you have a regular mini 14 not a ranch rifle with the intergral bases...a B Square side mount has been the most secure mount we have used but are presently sold out. We have used Weaver's own mount but I dont' like it as it replaces the rear sight and has not stayed solid on the mounts I have installed...also the problem with the eject angle is more apparent as some of the ejected casings "stove pipe" between the front of the bolt and the front of the mount the locks down in front on the receiver. Good luck as this has been a constant issue with us in the past.
