Ruger Mini 14 Series 180?

Was searching on the net and found Ruger once made early model Mini 14 called Series 180.

Anybody knows whats the difference?

Also, the newer / current model called the ranch, what improvement has (if any) done to these rifle?

I'm looking at a 180 series right now trying to figure out how to mount a scope on it --- the immediate difference appears that you can't mount a scope on it.

looks like outside of drilling and tapping the receiver, all the other scope mount solutions are dodgy.
