I am considering buying a Ruger Mini-14 Target. I do not have a .223 yet. I have been thinking about the election coming up and what the outcome may be. I will be using it to shoot gophers and predators. What are your opinions on the gun/election. Are there better options? Also what scope would you put on a gun like this. I have been looking at the Busnell Elite 3200 in a 3-9X40 and the straight 10 power tactical. Any other thoughts.

Thanks!

i own a 3200 10x mildot tactical and i would not recommend it for anything other than range use. 10x is far too much for closer range shots.

as for the mini-14T, i think youd have a hard time finding a better non-restricted semi-auto varmint/coyote gun. if we lived in the states, id pick up an AR hands down, but we dont.

I have a ruger mini-14 in 6.8 Rem. SPC and put a Bushnell 3200 3 x 9 on it and so far have been quite happy with it. It's for hunting and has been holding up quite well.

Rugerman,

What kind of groups are you getting with that Mini-14 in 6.8 Rem SPC, I was really interesting in that rifle awhile ago but never heard anything about them.

More info would be appreciated. Good, bad or otherwise. :)

Ghost ring sites are not bad. I don't think the mini is a tack driver by any means so i wouldn't scope it unless you are varmint hunting. I would go for the .223, as these are a military round (5.56 nato) and they may be scarser in the coming years due to the new DOS law.

we all know the standard Mini is no target gun, I was wondering specifically about how the 6.8 version performs as I want something semi auto for deer/bush/truck but am not intrigued by the 7.62x39 platforms that are available. And yes I know the cost of the 6.8 is higher.

Rugerman..... calling Rugerman... :)

I don't own one, but have seen a Target in use, and there is no comparison between a Target and a standard Mini.

I Own One

Bought a new Mini 14 Target this spring, scoped with a Bushnell 3200 5-15 x 44. Very accurate at 100 yds, groups are 3/4" using 55 grain. But it really likes the 64 or 69 grain bullets if you can find them, groups are even tighter.

The harmonic dampener really has to be tweaked to get the groups tight. For example, on mine, I found that 1/4" turn would put the groups 2" high and left, so it's taken a few rounds to tighten up the groups with the right setting.

Nice wood, I've got the laminated version, no failures to fire and smooth as silk in .223 action.

anyone have info on the 6.8SPC, I am trying to hijack this thread into talking about the 6.8SPC but no ones biting. :D
