I just bought a Ruger Mini-30 and tried to fire some surplus ammo through it yesterday, and I could only ignite the primer in about 1 in every 5 rounds. I tried firing the misfired rounds in my sks and they worked flawlessly. I understand that the surplus ammo has a hard primer, but is there a fix for the rugger to make it fire this ammo?

Try looking in the supporting dealer links. Someone has to have it or be able to order it.

Your mini 30 is .308 and will shoot 7.62X51... your SKS is chambered to fire 7.62X39.

Your shooting the wrong ammo in your Ruger!

I'm sure it will shoot the correct surplus just fine.

I believe you are thinking of the M-14 perhaps the Mini 30's shoot 7.62X39. Mine seems to shoot surplus fine maybe I just got lucky. A heavier hammer spring would probably make sure of it though.
