I would like to buy it as my short range deer rifle. Already have SKS and CZ 858, this time it will be Ruger. Heard some negative opinions about it.
Would you reccomend this rifle or should I forget it?:dancingbanana:

I have had a couple. One was a very good shooter, the other was not very good at all. They were both reliable 100% with Norinco ammo. They carry different than other guns in that caliber and do feel a little more like a hunting rifle. Some have problems with the harder primers in surplus ammo.

3-4MOA groups are fine with me, reliability is the main think for me and if it will shoot surplus ammo without issues

Why would you pick a marginal caliber for a deer rifle? Especially if you already have 2 marginal deer caliber guns. For close range deer you would be much better served with a rifle that uses a heavier bullet or at least a bullet with a high SD to ensure sufficient penetration with expansion.

I shot a wild bore last year, little bit over 100yds, weighted at 185LB with a MINI30. Drop it in one shot, with Leupold 1.5-5X20MM ILLUM. cross, 30mm tube. Shots 1-2 MOA at 100 with winchester 7.62x39 ammo, and shoots very clean. I have few high-end hunting rifles...but I like to hunt with the MINI30. accuracy is very good, 1-2 MOA at 100 ( I guess depended on how well can you shoot). Very reliable (otherwise, i will not used it for wild bores). Very light and compact ( I am not a big guy, and I can carry it round the field and bush most of the day). Very nice hunting rifle.

7.62x39 is fine for deer up to 200m. My Ruger M77 in this cal has been used for a nice WT buck at about 75m, a Mule Deer doe at about 200m, and a WT doe at about 100m... all where one shot kills with no bugging off on the part of the deer.

mini 30 is a decent rifle. trigger is pretty rough at times.
it can shoot the surplus ammo, I do get the odd failure to fire with mine due to the military primers. With czech surplus, it doesn't group, it patterns....be warned. I've heard about firing pins breaking on them, but no problems yet.

put an accustrut on it, get the trigger tuned by a gunsmith who knows what he's doing.
