Ruger Mini 30 ???

I have one of the 582 series guns. Synthetic stock and stainless barrel.

I am having some difficulties with failure to complete the cycle. I think I may need a stronger spring but I have not looked into it. It may also need to be stripped and thoroughly cleaned. That has to wait until after deer season.

That said, it shoots 1 - 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards with commerical ammo. I am using Hornady and Privi Partisan. Both are accurate but they don't hit the same spot. You can be sighted in for one but not the other. So I would say the gun can be finicky about what you are shooting.

Quality is par with other Ruger products I own. And I do have several other Rugers, rifles and handguns.

I have an older early one that is in blue .Previous owner was trying to use surplus ammo but was having 2 to 3 shots actually fire and when it did it didn't fully reset the hammer. When I purchased it ,it was stuck closed and when I opened it and striped it noticed the barrel is now lightly pitted and dark .Cleaned it all up picked up a new wolf recoil spring and hammer spring ,firing pin and shimmed the hammer .Now runs as it should with surplus ammo and the accuracy tightened with the addition of some weigh added to barrel (4" at 100 yards ).All this info is availiable on the us forms and how to's,old area. The new ones don't have these problems and also a heavier barrel and are more accurate if sighted properly Cheers Peter

I have one that I bought around 1990, it has cycled fine with everything I've fed it and never jammed. With hunting ammo it groups 2-3 inches at 100 yards which is good enough for deer hunting. I've never shot a deer with it but my sister killed a couple with it and it worked fine.
