Ruger MkII vs Ruger Mk III

The MKIII is only terrible because of the mag-safety; it can be removed (there are bushings that replace the safety parts) and then it feels/strips just like an MKII.
The LCI is also an eyesore, but not as bad as the mag-safety and it can too be removed.

Otherwise, the MKIII is much nicer for aesthetics.


I'd buy (and I have) the MKIII but I always remove the mag-safety. In my opinion this is a must (the trigger actually improves a lot by doing this).
 
Mag release in the normal place does it for me. Mk3 all the way.

Supposed safety crap (LCI and mag ''safety") can be overcome quickly and easily.
 
The bushing can be purchased from Sam Lam, I believe he is from Ontario and it costs $11.00 His email is sg552.2@gmail.com and he asks that you do not include any mention of the word gun or firearms in your email. It is a bit of workout to get it reassembled but worth it and when you finish you will have a good idea of how your MK111 works. Sam's bushing is considered the number one best change you can make to the Mark 111.

Installing the Volquartsen Accurizing Kit is another worthwhile change. I just finished installing the kit and am very impressed, trigger pull is down to 2 lbs with a sweet crisp break. The last change I'm doing is custom grips and hopefully I'll finally be able to put a hole in the paper.::)
 
I have a mkiii competition stainless. The first 200 rounds fired very well, then it started misfiring on the third or fourth shot, it feels like the trigger is not engaging or just barely engaging but not enough. If you pull the trigger 3,4,or 5 times it will fire again just to misfire on another one!!?? anyone know what that might be. I also am interested in that bushing and a volquartsen kit. sounds worth it, if I can get this trigger/ whatever thing worked out.

Bobdbldr, have you cleaned it after those 200rnds?

.22lr's in general are notoriously filthy and that could be part of your problem. Depending on make model, some handle crud better than others. My old 597 would choke after a 200 hundred rounds easy and would need a detailed cleaning.

The 10/22 can go much longer.
