CGN came through for me once again!

I bought a MkIII Target about 6 months ago. I also picked up a box of 525 federal bulk 22 for hours of plinking goodness. This box went well...probably 1 FTE/FTF in 200rnds. I figured bulk ammo, that's acceptable. Fast forward 3 months and about 1000 rnds, I decided to give her a cleaning. Struggled for a while to get the thing apart and back together, but overall not a terrible experience. Next range trip was when the issues started. bought a few boxes of Wildcat, Dynapoint GT and Winchester 333/555. Nothing would cycle. At least 3 jams per magazine. Since this little pistol gets such rave reviews, the new ailment frustrated me to no end. I thought it was me at first, so I disassembled it and watched several videos about how to break these down and put them together, however my next range trip was the same. I felt defeated and disgusted, so into the safe she went until last weekend.

Browsing the CGN forums, I found some threads on the MkIII and gave them a read. Someone suggested removing the LCI (loaded chamber indicator), as that was known for causing issues for loading/extracting. So, I decided to give it a shot. Last night i got my trusty telescoping magnet out and removed the LCI, as well as gave the moving parts a little oil for good measure. I put 280 rounds through the little bugger this morning (mix of all manufacturers) and only had 3 failures, 2 of which seem like bad rounds(large strike on the primer, but no ignition) and 1 stove pipe. It would appear my issues are no more!

Just wanted to say thanks to all the knowledgeable members on here for the good advice, and also leave a tag in the title for those with similar issues to find.

Cheers,
John

Did that some time ago with a stainless MkIII. If you don't like the looks of the hole left behind by the LCI, you can find "filler" plugs online that fill the void. Don't know if they ship to Canada yet, but I bought one of the Tandemkross ones (along with one of their hammer bushings - which effectively removes the magazine disconnect "issue" as well). Very easy mods to do and they actually make the pistol that much nicer to shoot and clean.

Congrats on working through your FTE/FTF issues.

Cheers,
hsld.

I found that this makes it rip right along :ar15: Find some ammo that it likes and stick with that.

Had the same issue, and even if the LCI wasn't the cause of the hangups (could've just used a good cleaning/oiling) the removal of it did make it that much easier to get the cases out when it did jam. Waaay too much clutter in the action with all the unnecessary moving parts of the LCI. I started out 100% problem free, ran into the jamming starting and after putting up with it for too long I removed the LCI and gave it a good tear-down and cleaning, and put in a VQ extractor. Back up and running.

MKII pistol didn't have an LCI.

It was added as part of the MKIII "enhancements". Probably at behest of Ruger's legal council :-(
