Help me out here .
My friend got her RPAL and is ready for a .22 pistol.
She likes the looks of the Ruger MKlll Stainless with 5 1/2 in
bull barrel.
All the reviews seem positive.
I checked one out in the gun shop and was not impressed with the trigger.
What can be done to get the trigger lighter and crisper.
I suggested a Model 41 or a Medalist, but she seems to have fallen for the Ruger.
It's a little more lightweight and it's stainless.
The pistol is going to be used for informal target shooting.
I don,t want her battling with a crappy,heavy trigger.
I'm not Ruger knowledgable.
All help and wisdom appreciated.

Remove the 'Mag-Safety disconnect' crap and it will help the trigger feel a lot, in addition to allowing the mags to drop free.

It's a must do mod for these guns in my opinion.

What about one of the original Browning Challengers? They've got better triggers than a typical Ruger, and they've got a lighter barrel than a Medalist (plus they're only about half the price). The only issue might be finding one, though.

How about the Beretta 87T? It's a nice shooting pistol and quite accurate. There is a bit of creep in the trigger but it is nice and light. I also own a slabside MkII Government Competition and I find it has an edge in accuracy over the 87T but the trigger isn't as light as the Beretta's. Both have been trouble free for me.

She really has fallen for the stainless Mark lll.
I'll take her tomorrow to handle one and to see how
she likes the feel of it.
Dumping the mag disconnect is a good idea.
Possibly a VQ accurizing kit would help also.
We all fall for a certain pistol and I'm not going to get in her way.
Maybe she knows more than she's letting on....like Ruger is running
a special promotion this month.
Buy a Ruger stainless and get a matching Gucci silver handbag for free.

For the average novice, the Ruger's trigger is okay. I am not a novice, and have a blast with my 22/45 MkIII. I am not, nor ever will be, a really accurate target shooter, so am not hampered by the... pedestrian quality of Ruger firearms. I have trained to double-tap center of mass, and the Ruger does that just fine.

Besides which, as I have learned from gently fostering my wife's interest in firearms.... If She likes it, She gets it: Keep my opinion to myself, until such time as She has decided that the tool does not suit Her purpose!

;)

Thanks for the advice all.
We went to Al Simmonds today and
took a look at a few 22's they had in stock.
The Ruger Mark lll Stainless bull barrel won out.
I'm sure she'll be on here soon enough, giving her report.

I've got the Mk III Heavy barrell comp. model and I think it's fantastic.
If you wanna see poor triggers try my Sig Mosquito or the Walther P22 I used to have; they're nasty.

I have a Ruger Mark III hunter SS 6 7/8 barrel and the trigger was not that great when i bought it. I put a Volquartsen accurizing kit on it and now the trigger is just as good as my S&W Model 41. I still shoot better with the model 41 but that trigger job worked wonders. They even have video on the Volquartsen web site that demostrates how to do it. Enjoy your Ruger..

Well, I bought the Ruger Mark III SS and took it to the gun club last weekend. The gun handles really well and I'm very pleased with my choice, but the "owner" needs many hours of practice so that all my shots end up on the targets.

So you're Lef T's SO I take it? Either way congrats on the new toy.

I started out recently myself with a 9mm so I can get ready for IPSC shooting. But I foresee a .22 semi in the very near future just to get sighting in time and work on my style. With the price of 9mm a practice 22 is almost a neccesity!

It's a good choice. I have the 5 1/2 blued. Given a choice between stainless and blued. I'd pick the stainless. This is currently my most used pistol. It offers very good accuracy, and is still small and handy. Taking it apart the first couple of times is a pain. But you get the hang of it.

The only thing I would suggest is to get Hogue grips for it. The stock plastic ones will work and are fine but the Hogue ones are an excellent upgrade.

I also recommend American Eagle 38 grain hollow points for plinking ammo. Seems to offer pretty good accuracy at a reasonable price. Plus I find it does better at 50 yards with wind compared to the 40 grain solids.

Don't worry about any of the anti mag safety etc talk. The fact that the MKIII offers a conventional mag release rather than the heel release more than makes up for the other stuff. Plus I don't really see what the big deal is with the anti mag safety campaign. Especially for a .22 target pistol. It's no big deal and she really won't care.

The Brownings are also nice. Either one in stainless would fit the bill perfectly.
