Just an FYI that Wholesale Sports is selling the excellent Ruger No. 1 in .458 Lott and .405 Winchester. The .405Win can be had in a couple of versions; a SS laminate stock and a No. 1 Tropical. I think the Lott is just available in the Tropical version.

I am constantly tempted to buy the .405 Winchester...

They are both in the $960 range.

I bought the 1H from them last year in the spring, and love it! SHoots factory FP bullets very well. Shoots reloaded SP bullets real well. Shoots Barnes X bullets REAL well. Shoots 41 mag pistol bullets for fun nicely as well. And the cast bullets from my Lyman mold I am still working on. Haven't killed anything with it yet, but it is a seriously accurate rifle.

The iron sights aren't regulated very well, but witht the Leupold VX-II 2-7x33, it is a pretty sweet package. Highly recommend this for someone who wants an old thumper in a moderate recoil rifle.

Here is a target for my handloaded 300 gr SP Hornady bullets at 100 yards. This dog will hunt, I bet! :)

I have owned allot of rifles/calibres over the years but I have never owned a Ruger #1. This is the year for me for sure. But now to choose a calibre, there are so many to choose from :runaway:

The .405 or the 458 Lott would both interest me, but there are others....

I've owned a few Tropicals. All have been extremely accurate. Could be something to do with the truck axel screwed to the action. Very nice rifles, although not overly lightweight.

Great minds think alike preacher! My #1A also wears a Leupy 2-7X33, and I think it's the perfect scope for that rifle. It has the right proportions... just looks and feels excellent.

There is in fact a No. 1 SS laminate model of the Lott as well.
The SS models are $970 and the blued Tropical is $940.

If you need a bolt gun they are selling the M77 Safari chambered for the .458 Lott (also .416 Rigby) for $2037... but that's outta my price range.

I have a Ruger No.1 in a 404 Jeffery nice rifle hard to get ammo for though, I also own a 405 Win in a 1885 orginal Hi Wall custom built both calibers work great in my opion.
