Does anyone make aftermarket light profile barrels for the Ruger PC carbine? I haven't found any yet, I was curious if there are any options outside of custom smithing.

Or the gunsmiths in here would it just be more effective to profile down the standard barrel?

Yeah if we are talking about the MLOK aluminum handguard, I too have noticed it is front heavy on this model. I barely shoot mine anymore...the disassembly for cleaning is annoying since it requires tools (allan key, etc.) and my allen bolts have already started to strip due to Ruger suggesting 60 inch pounds for tightening. Plus that shock buffer and clip was always annoying - the mcarbo upgrade is a must in this regard.

I put a vertical foregrip on it and I still find it heavy. I recently bought a Magpul AFG and may try that, but I think that aluminum handguard is poorly designed weight wise - not distributed evenly weight wise with the rest of the gun. Those who don't have the aluminum handguard don't understand that there is a huge difference between the regular Ruger PC version and the aluminum mlok handguard version.

Not much help to the OP so far, sorry bud! But I have to agree with the posts above, I think even the basic version is unbalanced. It's one of the very few rifles that I couldn't wait to give back to the gun shop clerk after he handed it to me.

It would be interesting to see if Ruger puts out a light-barreled version of the PC Carbine in the future. But I doubt it will happen: I suspect that a big part of the noted reliability of the Ruger is due to the overall mass of the rifle helping the straight blowback action function properly.

I too was looking for a lighter barrel. No luck.
Love the reliability of the Ruger PC.
Hate the weight and balance of it.
I wonder how much the weight could be reduced by fluting the barrel? That would retain the rigidity while decreasing the weight. It might also aid in heat dissipation (although I don't think that's a big issue with a 9mm PCC).

Well, it is "fluted" already. It's a pretty mild fluting though, it seems like there is room to take more off. I'm guessing Ruger wanted to keep the weight where it is for a reason.

I got the magpul backpacker stock and the weight down to 6lbs, way better than the original stock

The weight is not in the aluminum mlok handguard it’s in the heavy barrel.
