Not sure if this section is the best for all this but just wanted to share my day yesterday as many things I have wanted to put together worked out well.

My main focus was to set myself up to be able to load rounds for testing out in the field. I enjoy developing loads but find it a pain to go back and forth to the range until you get where you want to with the loads. So I attempted to set up a reloading station out of the back of my Jeep. I prep the brass before hand so just really powder charges and seating depth. But I can now load just one round at a time at first, simply turn around and fire it over the magnetospeed and find out my velocity immediately. It worked very well. I had already built a bit of a sub floor in the back of my jeep for bug out containers full of cooking stuff and tools, so I just added a bit more support for my press and it worked easily. The next hurdle was how to power my RCBS chargemaster. Just too spoiled by this thing to use anything else. So I did some research and found out some of these portable automobile power stations would work. So sure enough it works perfectly and it powered my chargemaster all day.

The RPR is new to me and am just starting to develop for it, but was really interested in trying out IMR's new(ish) Enduron powder for its temperature stability and copper reducing agent. I had a few pounds of different ones but had some pretty good luck with IMR 4955. Found the RPR to be a bit more picky as it was only near the point I was about to quit with this powder and try something else that I ended up with the target below and went..Whew!! good enough for me. :) So I was using 105g Amax's with IMR 4955 and was happy with 2952 fps average. It goes faster but this group was actually quite easy to do with this load so I stayed there.

I shot 3 rounds at first to test this powder charge and they were tight so I loaded up 5 more and figured if this was a good load then the next five should go right on top of the first three. So I went back on the same group and shot 5 more pretty much right on top. I honestly called the last shot cause after shooting a total of 7 and watching them all land in the same spot I kinda got nervous about how long I could keep doing this. ha ha. So like most times with the last shot, I got flaky and pulled it a bit. oh well. I was still happy.

Group not counting the flyer was right around .5"..and with the flyer was about .75".

Thk Hats off to you good sir!

I had mentioned to a buddy at the range last fall how handy it would be to have a press mounted on our shooting tables! I was just dreaming, but having a little mobile setup....now we're talking!

Anyone use a balance beam in the field? I have a Lee hand press that would be great for load development at the range but I've never used a balance beam outdoors haha. My new LR spot is about an hour drive and a couple km's quad ride into the bush but once there I've got a huge cutline to play on.

Don't use it outside... most trucks have a flat spot somewhere... make a base so you can level and measure the powder inside the cab.

Battery powered scale like the Gempro 250's make this process easy... just don't expose to drafts.

FH, great job and nice results... sure saves alot of time when you aren't running back and forth.

Nice group. Did you shoot that group with the Magneto on or off?
If it was on you might find the group opens up b/c the barrel harmonics have changed.

Ryan

This is possible Ryan, however I have had pretty good luck so far with it both on and off. I had already tested one or two rounds with this charge first with the magneto speed to see ballpark velocity. Then I came back to it by loading three rounds for a group test and that was with the magnetospeed off. But I put it back on to shoot the final 5 to get a better reading on the average velocity and SD etc. So it held a pretty good group with it both on and off.

If you where concerned with a balance scale , just build a in closure for it , I would be more concerned with a electronic scale than a balance scale .

Drive with 1 knee, scale on the console, press in hand. I've been wasting so much time doing things separately. I wonder if the operator would be pissed if he went to check his site and I had my reloading gear set up in the measurement shack.

Very neat setup ;)
Nice results too, pretty encouraging!
What about reloading while driving to the range?
