Hey guys just purchased a ruger precision rifle in 6.5 Creedmore from Ellwood Epps. They sold out of them in a day and a half. This is my first of this design.I have Nosler brass and Lapua 139 gr.senars and 142 sierra mks.Nosler 129 LR.and Barnes tts in 127 LR.
Whats the best powder to try first.I have 5 different powders that will work in it,as per the hornady manual.
Also I have to get a scope for it whats the best bang for the buck under $1000.
Im not a long range precision shooter but would like to shoot out to 500 yards /meters.
I would also use this set up to shoot deer out to 400 to 500 yards. I have killed game out to 427 yards, bull moose with a custom ruger #1 in 257 weatherby.
So guys this is my real first foray into precision bolt action shooting.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks all for your time

H-4350, IMR 4350, H-4831sc, 139 scenars or 142 smk are great bullets...I am not sure but the 142 may come already pointed so that's a plus on the BC end of things, had great results from federal gold medal match primers as well.

Check out the sticky at the top of this thread "Optics for the new precision shooter". It's a very well written review. Keep an eye on the EE, you can find some decent scopes in the 1000$ mark, specifically Sightron SIIIs but the Vortex PST range is pretty good as are the Bushnell Elites.

well picked up a Vortex Viper 6.5 x 20 x 50 scope and high Leupold PRW rings got home and the high isn't enough have to go to extra high, now have to go back to shop Tuesday as the store is closed Mondays
So I loaded up 142 smks with IMR 4350 also with Winchester 760,fed 210 match primers.
Will also try some IMR 4064,AND Varget and maybe some H4831sc.
So wait now for the rings and then I can shoot.
I cant wait.

For my Ruger Precision Rifle, I got the 1.375" high rings from ATRS in Calgary (they ship too). $150 for some very high quality, precision machined rings. Highly recommended.

I also ordered one of the RPRs in 6.5 from Epps. I wasn't sure I wanted to delve into reloading for the 6.5 Creedmoor as finding components might be a pain compared to my usual fare of .223 and .308 but I couldn't resist the price of the rifle and considering the direction of the Canadian dollar I just had to. Good info in this thread!

I found some Lee 4pc dies on Amazon and now those are on the way also. Just for fun I'd love to see some Lee classic dies in this caliber but I doubt that'll ever happen.

What did you pay for the rifle if you don't mind me asking?

That's a really good price! Most dealers are 1649-1699 now before tax

I think that's too expensive. I am hoping it comes down in price after the hype wears down and our dollar eventually rebounds.

I was also leaning towards the 6.5 to have something different, but not sure I like the idea of the pre-mature barrel wear compared to other rounds like the 308.
