Ruger Precision Rifle Enhanced - how to loosen jam nut

The muzzle brake is slight off-indexed but a simple fix. However for the life of me I can't loosen the jam nut?! I assume I should be turning the nut clockwise? Help please!

Are you sure it isn't the style where the jam but threads onto external threads of the brake and is tightened against the barrel and not the brake to lock it down? If that's the case you would hold the brake and turn the nut counter clockwise to loosen.

I tried to turn clockwise but it wouldn't budge. Didn't want to force it any further before figuring out which direction the nut is supposed to turn. I do see a small space behind (towards the back of the rifle) the jam nut so it SHOULD be clockwise to loosen, then counterclockwise to loosen the brake itself next.

Yes going those pictures it should be clockwise to loosen, try some heat, maybe they used loctite?

Must be locktite. The nut is on there GOOD.

At least the handguard is straight this time around

I loosen mine to correct the timing. Use a wrench on the jam nut and a big screw driver into the muzzle brake (wrap screw driver with leather to prevent damage to brake). Turn jam nut clockwise and muzzle brake counter clockwise at the same time. It should loosen with moderate effort.

I find that brakes have to be oriented to 1:00 o'clock to stop rifle jumping to the right on recoil.

Maybe it is supposed to be tilted?

I read about that too but thought it's for semi autos mostly?

I doubt it because I have the opportunity to compare two rifles at the same time and both of them timed different.
