Hey Jerry T @ Mystic Precision....

Ever consider something like these barrels for the RPR ? Yeeeha!

http://criterionbarrels.com/prefits/rpr

I'm going crazy... the voices in my mind are taking over, ".260 .260 .260!" :runaway:

I love this platform but I'm a nut for the .260 family!

Already working with McGowen to get barrels for the RPR. They have been held up as they are waiting for the donor rifle to get the specs off.

hopefully, they have that resolved and we can look at getting barrels up here.

Happy to put you on the list for contact... and anyone else who is interested.

All options for prefits will be available so have a look at the Mcgowen site... lots of options.

Jerry

There is really no need for a pre fit a gun smith can machine a barrel to fit on the rpr with no issue what so ever, I had an old kreiger Med Palma laying around and fitted it to an rpr with no issues what so ever.

The need for a prefit comes from the cost. You can get a prefit for not much more than the price as a blank, and you dont have to worry about paying a smith to finish it. In the end you save a bunch of money.

Cost would be a big factor in this upgrade for me, especially on a gun that is meant to get a guy into distance/target shooting on a budget, if not I'd just leave as is and upgrade the entire gun down the road.

Can you share the cost to have a gun smith machine a barrel to fit on the RPR (fair cost, not buddy cost) so that we can fairly compare cost.

Price of a barrel say $500 for easy numbers, cost to chamber depends on your gun smith. What I pay to have barrels chambered may not be what you pay for chambers. But I'll take a barrel fit by a trusted gunsmith over a prefit any day.

Why? If the barrel maker makes a quality product and it's secured by a nut, assuming the chamber is cut properly, installing it is pretty easy. From my perspective I don't know too many Gunsmiths making barrels, but barrel makers have been chambering prefit barrels for quite awhile.

I'm not sure how the rpr barrel spins on. But a smith can time the barrel to the action to allow maximum elevation and lessen windage error. They can also ream the chamber to your specs. Not to mention finish the muzzle as you like.

That's the advantage to me. Ymmv

Did a google for information about how a RPR barrel is installed. Pretty straightforward. Even found a file with the shank dimensions.

To each there own I guess, all I was saying is that it is possible to have a custom barrel installed on the rpr with out waiting for a pre fit

My bank account's contents on any given day prevent me from thinking this way. True on the first, and on the second I think this is the first time I've heard of this practice, makes sense though. I'd guess the advantage would be pretty small with a well made match barrel, but I suppose every bit helps.
