I have heard a rumour that Ruger is developing a Mini style Ranch Rifle in full size 308, I have looked on the internet but as of yet have found nothing definitive, does anybody know, I would love to try one.

I think they had one planned back in the 80's but it never went into production...not sure why.
 
IIRC there were a small run of Ranch Rifles made for testing by Ruger, but they never went into serious production. I don't recall exactly why they didn't work out but it was something to do with the design not holding up or performing well with the powerful. 308. Note that there is a Mini-30... I guess Ruger didn't want to recreate the M14.
 
As I remember there was some legal issues with Springfield Armory, saying basically its a copy, and then Ruger droped the idea.
 
I remember an advert for the Ruger XGI (.308) but never saw one in the flesh. The gun was either recalled or stopped during initial production. Phil.
 
The cast action's couldn't handle the 308 round, but they scaled it down to another world famous cartridge.
Care to guess what it was?
