Ruger Redhawk 45/45 ACP 4.2" Stainless (Double Action)

Just thought I'd give a huge thanks to Clay and his group. Purchased a Redhawk 45ACP/45 Colt on the 2nd and she just landed on my doorstep today. Boo-yah!!!

It's hot as crap out right now, so range day will have to wait 'till tomorrow.

Some pics.

Well, range day has come and gone. I won't post any targets to brag about accuracy as there was an issue......I forgot to bring a fine blade screwdriver to adjust the windage screw*. Held it "about there" on the target and prayed. My 45 Colt is loaded pretty light, so the rounds were "grouping" in the same area as the 45ACP.
*both elevation and windage require a fairly fine blade to register in the slot.

As for the shooting, it's very, very nice! Handles like a dream. She's got some good heft to her, but it's not nose heavy thanks to the 4.2" barrel. The grips seem disproportionate to the rest of the revolver, but are very comfortable in my medium hands. Maybe with some hot ammo there might be an issue. A glove might come in handy if one wanted to shoot hotter loads.
Single action is great. Not hair trigger light, but it was crisp with barely any creep.
Double action is long, but not too heavy. There's an odd (to me) feel right at the end as the cylinder lock engages. You're pulling, the cylinder rotates, the hammer's coming back and then there's a very audible click of the lock. First couple of shots it was throwing me off. I heard the click, thought the hammer locked back and I eased off the trigger only to see that's not the case. Took me a bit to know this is the norm.

Use of the moon clips was a lot easier than I thought it'd be. The rounds snap in and out pretty easy with a slight rotation of the case. My only gripe in this dept. is I wish more than 3 came with the gun. Even alternating between firing ACP and Colt, ejection was clean and no cases got stuck. I shot about 100 rounds of mixed ammo. Maybe if one were to fire loads of ACP, not clean and then fire Colt rounds there might be an issue, but that wasn't the case with me.

I am a sucker for guns that make big holes, and this one scratches that itch nicely. All in all, me likey very much!!

What's the thinking behind mating the older style skinny grips with such a beefy revolver as the Redhawk? How much MIM parts are to be found in the line these days?

I don't know their thinking, but it works. Like I said, the grips are disproportionate but comfortable. I believe that if they were any larger, the whole gun would feel awkward. If you do want larger, there's always aftermarket.

PS
One more thing I love about this gun is how clean she is.....no lawyerese scribbled all over the sides. SN is under the butt, a quick "Read instruction manual" and location stamp under the half lug, and that's it.
