ruger redhawk

I've got 3 - 4.2, 5.5, 7.5-the 4.2 has a different front sight arrangement- ie a pinned blade instead of the usual plunger and blade in the 5.5 and 7.5- all in stainless- to tell the truth, i'm a little askeered to shoot the 4.2 but I found the 5.5 to be my new best friend-- it wears a 2.5 and a rail- when you use full house loads it makes your head SNAP up and pay attention- 240 grain slugs - the little fellow is a charter arms bulldog in 44 special- that'll move you right smartly 2- and of course , I got hogues on all of them- that factory wood ain't much good.

Mine is as good as I hoped it would be. (Blued, 5.5" barrel.) Haven't tried any other .44Magnum handgun. If you read what everyone says they like about Redhawks and the alternatives and the Redhawk sounds best to you, get it. I think you'll be right. If you think you'll like something else better I think you won't be wrong.

don't bother with 44 specials- the loads are fine, but the price of loaded rounds and brass is just plain silly due to all the cas shooters shooting specials- if you roll your own, you can load it down to 44 special vels - they both use the same bullet- and if you MUST have 44 special , you can make your own using a tubing cutter and a 44 special casing as a guide- also be aware that firing 44 special in a 44 special case in a 44 MAGNUM chamber leaves a CRUD RING just in front of the case mouth in the cylinder- easy enough to clean out, but why bother?- just use 44 mag cases

I don't shoot my model 29 that much but I really want a 4.2" Redhawk. It's like a gp100 4.2" big brother.
hee hee and no , it ain't- it grips different, and really "lights " up the range- the only thing the 4.2 and the gp 100 share is the ruger name- and it's different from the "other " redhawks too- ie the 5.5 and the 7.5- the front sight is PINNED in place, and you probably can't get a rib for it- the one for the 5.5 from Brownells would probably fit, but you have to know PRECISELY where to drill the hole and put in a longer pin

Lol, I know they aren't completely identical...obviously. I do shoot hot loads out of my model 29 but 22.5grains of h110 under a 125gr bullet are no slouch :p

oh please, 125 grain slugs are hardly a strain for the 44- I use 240\s all the way across the board with 296- all I do for my special is drop it down to 6.5 of 231- your definition of a "hot " load is very different from mine

I'll say. My max load in the Redhawk is 24.5gr of H110 under a 245gr Keith SWC. My Redhawk also likes the 6.5gr of 231 under the same bullet. Quite mild and laser accurate.

That's basically (125gn plated + 22gn H110)what I use for hot .357 magnum hand loads; 240 and 300gn recipes for fun .44M - still not equal to those Buffalo Bore +P+ though :)

Ya the 125gr campro plated swc with 22-22.5 grains of h110 through my 4.2" gp100 is so fun!

Lol, 125grain 22.5gr h110 = 357magnum. I only use 200 and 240 grain bullets through the 44mag

Im amazed how easily people are confused on this forum. Scary....

look at post 22- you are the one inferring you shoot a 125 out of a 44 mag- it's YOU who confused the issue , not us

You're confused again. Post number 22 is not from me. I think your referring to post 27. I think you guys didn't understand what I said lol. I first refered the redhawk 4.2 as the gp100's big brother. Which you then stated its not identical which is obvious and said that the redhawk 44mag really "lights up the range". I was sneakily hinting at the 357 magnum can "light up the range very well too" with 125gr bullets with 22.5 grains of h110. (I was comparing the gp100 to the redhawk) It should have been clear that 125grain bullets out of a 44 magnum wouldn't work right lol! :p
