The new Ruger® SR-762™ is a lightweight, quick-handling carbine that is an ideal rifle for those who appreciate the familiar and ergonomic AR-style platform. The .308 Win./7.62 NATO cartridge is perfect for hunting medium and most large-sized game and enhances the capability of the AR-style platform in defensive or tactical roles. The SR-762™ retains the features of the original SR-556® that make it a solid performer among AR-style rifles.

looks like they wanted to show up the sig 716.

The new ruger has a 2 piston system.

I also heard it was really expensive. Ruger 762 is MSRP in the US at $2300....

It's the same 2 stage design piston like the original SR556's. They are showing a suggested retail pfice of $2195. It looks like it's designed using all 3 of their models. Flash hider from the standard, fluted barrel from the carbine and handguard from the E model. It's heavy at 8.6 lbs.

That doesn't look to bad. Except for the cheap buttstock. Looks like the same POS that was on my SR-22.... For 2G's at least a CTR should be on there.

It's 10.16 for the hk417, which you can't officially purchase, or support(hk only sells these to mil/gov organizations). The mr762/mr308 that you can buy is 9.94lbs, still a fair bit more than either the ruger or the sig, that being said I am not sure which one of these three is more reliable. To be honest since a semi auto 308 is not coming to me in the future I am not particularly interested in researching further.

As an alternative might I recommend the famae sg542? 8.1lbs unloaded and non restricted for around 2700 bucks?

I agree. Maybe they spent it all on troy...but yeah its ugly.

Before i even left the gunstore with my SR556 it was sporting a CTR, it's a truly awefull buttstock that it ships with, also put a rainier arms mini compensator on mine.
