Ruger rifles

In my search for a new rifle (I'm finally gonna buy a proper LH rifle) I came across a new Ruger, stainless/laminated, in 270win. I really like the looks of this rifle, especially compared to the T3 that I'm close to buying. What I didn't like was the action and how rough it felt.

Can anyone tell me if these smooth out significantly with some usage (and if so how much)? Is Ruger making a pretty accurate rifle?

Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Thx

I'd much rather have a Ruger over a T3.

Smooth bolt on the T3 is nice, but it doesn't bag game!:)

Put a little JB paste on the Ruger action and work it while watching TV> It will smooth out. :) Small price to pay for a better rifle.

Accuracy is fine with both rifles.
 
I'd take a Ruger over two T3's...smooth bolts are highly over rated..

My son has a lefty laminated stainless M77 30-06 and it's quite fine....very solid feel to it, a Ruger 77 is all steel and well built.... and plenty acurrate for a hunting rifle...
 
My Ruger was rough as a cob when new and didn't want to chamber loose rounds, which it is supposed to do, CRF or not. I loaded some dummy rounds and cycled them. After only about 30 or so action cycles, it really smoothed out. I ran about 100 or so cycles total; it took less than half an hour.
I've still only fired maybe 60 rounds from that rifle, but it's adequately smooth and feels like a bank vault locking up. Very nice. It's my first Ruger (a Hawkeye in .257 Roberts) and I'm quite happy with it.
 
I presently have two Rugers and a T3 and in my opinion the Tikka is all around better especially in the quality of workmanship.
Both Ruger and Tikka seem durable and accurate, but for me the T3 is much more user-friendly. :)
 
Get the one you like the best. I have both a Tikka T3 lite and a Ruger 77/Mark II and neither are inaccurate. I've done more load testing with the T3, and it comes out ahead on accuracy, but the Ruger is no slouch either and is plenty good for hunting. The T3 does have a nicer trigger and detachable mag. The Ruger come with rings and I like the design of the build in bases. Both guns have their merit, but yes, out of the box, the T3 is a smoother action and nicer trigger than the Ruger. But I don't think either of these rule out the Ruger if you like its look and feel more.
 
I have three Ruger bolt guns and two Tikkas you can't go wrong with either, but I do prefer my Rugers for hunting.
 
Rugers are good solid rifles that do what they need to. I have owned 7 of them in the original tang safety and in the Mk II configurations, and i have never had an issue in thousands of collective rounds between the rifles. The trigger is on the heavy side, but that can be swapped if it really bugs you, mine don't.

My t3 experience is limited, but the out of the box accuracy is pretty impressive.

The nice thing about the rugers, is if you get the 77/22, it operates very similarly to the centerfire sibling. Makes for good practice and second nature handling when big game season rolls around.

That about covers it...... The M77s are great hunting rifles, one of the best IMO.

The Rugers smooth right out with a little use and shoot just fine. Some of them, like my SS LH 30-06, shoot more than just fine.:)

I bought my first Ruger and it took 2 bullets to sight it in . I boresighted it then took a shot at 100yd target dead centre and 1" high , the next shot was pretty much right on top of the previous hole. that was it, Im Ruger for life!
 
I have the same rifle your thinking about buying and would not part with. I thought it was kind of rough at first but i put about 80 rounds down the pipe and it works, nice and smooth. Cheap federal power shok 150gr RN will group a inch at 150yds

I've got two Rugers [one 'tangsafety' model and one MkII] and two Tikkas [the 595/695 series though]. Both are nice rifles.

What they've made is a totally new rifle. The mk11s and the new hawkeyes are crf mauser style actions and not push feeds. Cheaper? Can't figure that one out. Its a huge improvement IMO. :)

As to the question posed, you prolly guessed my choice is Ruger over Tika big time. Incredibley robust mauser styled controlled round feed does it for me. And mine in 308 shoots about 2 1/2 inch 3 shot groups at 300 yds. :yingyang:
 
Rugers are heavier, you can get them is ultralights with thinner, shorter barrels. The Tikkas are really nice to carry and shoot. I own both and my T3 6.5x55 is my main hunting rifle but for some reason I have 6 Rugers too. Think about what your main purpose is going to be. For all 'round tough, dependable, hunting guns the Ruger wins. If yer gonna pack it up and down the side of a few moutains, the Tikka starts to look better and better.
