I've had this old canon since the mid-nineties, bought it off a club member who was the original owner. I've shot some pretty stout loads of .44mag thru it along with some lighter .44SPL, but not in the last 10yrs or so (i know a shame). Serial number dates it as late '89 to early/mid '90 range, square trigger guard & pins in the frame. Loading gate needs to be opened to remove the cylinder & a nice solid double click when the hammer is cocked.

So my questions are;

- is this one of the more desirable SBHs' ?
- anyone know if I could actually order a spare cylinder from anywhere?

Cheers

No, it's just another SBH unless it happens to be one of the special order models that Ruger does now and then for the bigger dealers. But if it's simply a basic black with basic grips then it's just another pedestrian SBH. The previous version that many folks prefer is the old 3 screw model that had to be moved to half #### for loading. In that one the gate swinging out did not free up the cylinder to allow loading.

All stories I've ever seen where folks want a spare or additional cylinder Ruger wanted the gun back to fit the extra cylinder. Because of how the tolerances can stack up fitting a cylinder is simply not a drop in job. And typically a new hand needs to be done to go with the cylinder or the pawls on the cylinder need careful fitting to work with the old hand so that the cylinder is held in the proper lockup without being too tight, too loose or out of position.

Why would you want a spare cylinder anyway? It's not like there's any rimless or other sizes that fit other than .44Mag and .44Spl.
