Does anyone have one of these? If so, what are the positives and negatives about it?

Does it come with bases to mount the scope over the action like on most rifles?

I've got one in .300WSM. Sadly, Ruger doesn't offer it in that caliber anymore..

It defines what a bush moose/deer/bear rifle should be:D

Heavier than it looks so recoil while there isn't that bad. yes its loud but not too much- i find it less loud than an open IPSC gun for instance.

Velocity drop compared to a normal barrel, at least in mine , is about 25 fPS per inch of barrel. so I get the same muzzle velocity as a 30-06 with a 24 inch barrel

gives me 3 shot 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards with the right handload at max velocities.:) :)

you can mount a scope at the rear or on the scout position. I put on a weaver adapter on the rear ones so I can quick mount a scope in either position depending on requirements. the scout system is extremely fast to use but you are limited to 2 1/2 power offerings from Burris or Leupold.

The factory trigger on mine - as on most rugers over the last 20 years was non adjustable so i replaced it with a Timney set at around 2 3/4 pounds. Everybody that shot it loves it. ruger I believe may now be offering an adjustable trigger.- don't know if it's offered on the Frontier yet.

all in all, its porbably one of the best rifles out there for bush hunting with the odd shot to 300 yards - in the .300WSM. with the .308 or .7mm-.08, it should be good for moose at shorter ranges, and awesome for deer. I can't speak form experience to the .35 caliber and .33 caliber offerings I beleive ruger is offering, but the ballistics seem promising

There are several reviews of the "Scout" type rifle. Writers seem to either love it or hate it, usually depending on what they think of the late Jeff Cooper.

I see no advantage in mounting a low power pistol scope out front, for years I hunted with a short Model 700 Mountain rifle in .308. I had a Leupy 1.75-6X on it, and generally left the power ring all the way down. A short, light rifle that fits the shooter is a joy to the hunter and a danger to all critters being hunted.

Mine killed a couple of moose, and a few whitetail and mule deer at ranges from under 20 ft to over 400 yd.

Fast follow-up shots are not that important if you learn not to throw away the first one (no second shot will ever be as good as a first one taken with even a wee bit of thought and deliberation). If you gotta spray and pray, not only are you throwing bullets all over the country side, you are likely missing!

"...Is Jeff Cooper dead?..." Yep. Died in September.
Putting the scope forward of the center of balance screws up the balance. It does put the weight on your forward hand though.

I have one in 7-08 and love it. Dropped a whitetail buck and doe with it last month, the buck at 100 yards. It shoots great 1" at 100 yards with cheap federal ammo. I have a leupold 4x up front that is great in the bush because you can get a really fast sight picture even on four power. I put a tactical style galco nylon sling on so I can carry it muzzle down with the sling over my left shoulder and just swing it into shooting position without unslinging the rifle. I think I'm going to work up some handloads because the soft point federal ammo didn't do that well on the doe, and the facier loads don't shoot as well out of the rifle. The buck went down with one shot to the heart so maybe I just need to aim better.
