Can anyone out there confirm that a Ruger Security Six and S&W 686 (6" barrel) will fit in the same holster?

I'm looking to but a holster for the Ruger and the place lists one for the 686.

The Security-Six had a narrower body than the 686, the 686 is based on the L-frame. I'd try a holster made for the K-frame S&W's like a Model 10,12,13,14,15,19,64,65,66,67. Probably the easiest holsters to find for sale too. Good luck.

If you ever buy a Ruger GP-100 it has a larger frame similar to the L-frame S&W's. Then a 686 holster would be perfect.

K frame may be too tight for a Sec. 6, especially if its has a thumbsnap at the top.

I have both and the holster for my K will not allow the thumbsnap to close with the Ruger in it. The Ruger is also a little tighter fit overall than the S&W.

The Ruger is a lot beefier at the top than the K frame S&W. With an open top holster, it should not be an issue.

I had a Security-Six 4" long ago. I guess I've forgoten how fat it was! I recently had a 6" GP-100 and the 686 holster worked great. I was thinking the Security-Six was a lot thinner. Damn memory is going:rolleyes:

Yeah the topstrap on the Sec 6 is much thicker and that back end recoil shield is a lot thicker also than the K frames.

I think a 686 holster would be a better fit, even if it is a bit loose, better than too tight.
