Just wanted to share some pics of my newly acquired Ruger Security Six (1986). What nice revolvers these are! This is my first exposure the Security Six and I would take one of these over the GP100 any day (which I've owned 3). Anyway, here are a couple pics, if you can find one used I highly recommend picking one up!

nice looking gun...

but I don't understand what could make it better than a GP100?

does it have the cylinder front locking latch?

Agreed...It just feels better in my hand and seems to point better. It's much lighter but still very strong, it should handle anything you can throw at it. The GP100 has a bit nicer trigger in double action though. It locks up tighter than the GP100's I've owned, but not by much (this is probably luck). I'll have to get out to the range and see how she shoots, I'm expecting good things.

Not sure how many locking points it has or what counts as a "locking" point. Take a look at the pic, I circled the 3 points where the cylinder/swing arm is locked into place.

mlebler, beautiful Security Six! Looks like the one on EE I missed out of, several days ago.:mad:

After 20 years of shooting S&W K and L frames, 22 months with a GP100 and about 3 months with my Security Six in stainless, I must say my new favorite is the SS. Modern design philosophy by Ruger addressed the weaknesses of the old traditional S&W revolvers.

With a Hogue grip, it fits my boney medium sized hands better than the other revolvers mentioned above. I prefer its size, weight, balance and pointability.

The Smiths have better triggers but I am happy enough with the SS's other qualities to overlook this one minor flaw. I can still shoot my Smith's better, due no doubt to their triggers, but I will get used to the SS for sure.

While I still prefer the fit, finish and aesthetics of S&W, I just love the tight and solid feel of my Rugers.

BTW, the SS has two locking points, similar to the S&W K and L frames. The GP100 has two as well; it has the crane lock but no front bolt/lug.

The Ruger Security Six is my FAVORITE .357 MAG revolver ....
and I've had a few dozen .357 Mag revolvers, and about a dozen of the Security Sixes.

They balance better and feel better in my hand than any S&W I've ever shot. The triggers stack differently than a S&W, but I have gotten used to it, and actually prefer the feel.

I currently own a 6" STAINLESS Security Six now, and it is great.

PS: Mr Squnity ...that RYTHON is COOOLLLL ...
but I prefer the Hogue grips over the Pachmyers.

Actually that's what's commonly called a Couger. The Python barrel is a squeeze bore with an optimized rifling twist for 38 target loads. There used to be almost an industry producing these hybrids, the best of both worlds, Ruger reliability and Python accuracy, there was quite a following for those guns in PPC.

my Ruger 6" already shoots better than any of my other hand guns.

And I like the way it balances without the added under lug.

But I still have to admire the Couger [ or Rython ] as a very neat piece of kit.

I plan to do some PPC in Victoria with it this year ....
maybe see you around?

And do you know anyone who has a decent PPC holster for sale???
I've got everthing else but a good 6" leather PPC holster,
