Ruger Security Six (ribbed Barrel) sight.

Questions to the gunsmiths out there. I broke the front sight off my Ruger Security Six (ribbed barrel version) and was wondering if a standard sight (regular security six) would fit on it. And is this something an average joe like me can undertake on his own, or does it need to be sent to the pros. Also, where would I acquire a sight for my Ruger in Canada? Any help would be appreciated.
