I could please use some help deciding between one of these 2 single action .22lr revolvers......:)
I am looking for a "plinking/target" revolver that I can have some fun with at the range.

Quality, durability and accuracy are important to me, but I already have the double action revolvers
covered with a Smith and Wesson Model 17/617.

Do any fellow members have experience with these 2 single actions? Both of them have adjustable rear sights,
6 or 10 round models and are of similar size and weight. Even the price is very similar...

Which one would you choose and why?:)

I'm sure Uberti makes a fine revolver but my Single Six was made in 1957 and is still going strong so I guess that says something about the Ruger. TC

I'd go with the ruger .... maybe even the single 10 model depending on the price. . I've shot a single six and it was a very good shooter with great accuracy and they've been around a while . Maybe not the most expensive or the best but very good for the money. you can't go wrong with a ruger IMHO....

Someone is going to pop in and say Just Buy Both, so it may as well be me :)

I'd wonder about the bore diameter on the Ruger, since they make convertibles. Are they sized for the .22lr?

Haven't checked mine yet,but i would think they are... if not,how would one get this kind of accuracy a single six delivers?

That makes sense. Do you get any sort of leading? That would certainly be common if the bores were oversized, and I don't recall anyone making note of such a thing occurring.

  • 22 lr .222-.223, 22 mag .224 or larger by
    1/1000 inch bullet diameter
  • 16/1000 inch neck diameter
  • 16/1000 inch base diameter
  • 16/1000 inch rim diameter
  • 365/1000 inch case length
  • 457/1000 inch cartridge length
and depending on the powder used, the 22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire can have almost twice the muzzle velocity and muzzle energy as the 22 Long Rifle. Ruger bore is for mag and usually best accuracy, but you'll still pop gophers at 25 yds. with 22 lr.

I think you'll enjoy either…..personally, I've been eyeing this…
RUGER SINGLE-SIX HUNTER, Convertible, Stainless 7.5 inch Barrel, Transfer Bar Adjustable Sights, Scope ring notch's & Scope rings, Grey Laminated Grips, 22LR/22Mag. - $945.00

If you already have the accuracy end covered with a S&W 17 or 617 I'd suggest looking at the smoother lines of the Pietta 6 or 10 shot revolvers from Marstar. The sights may not be easily adjustable (a metal file is required) but it makes up for this with the classic 1873 styling.

And here I was searching, wondering if I went SA only, would I miss DA - and you're going the opposite way. That is leaning me towards a Single Six just a little bit more, I think.

from my way of thinking you actually have 3 different guns listed here and only 2 of them are really comparable.
apples to apples to oranges kinda thing.
the Uberti and the Single 6 are comparable guns and comparable and really the only difference that i see between them if i where buying would be the availability of warranty work on the Uberti and the availability of aftermarket for the Uberti.

the single 10 is a different gun as its not a convertible and it has fiber optic front and rear sites.

my dad has the Ruger Single 6 and he picked up fiber optic front sites for his so he has the best of both worlds - fiber optics and convertible cylinders.
im not sure if the Uberti has the upgrade available for it to change out the sites.

i know im in the market for one of these and ive pretty much sold myself on the Single 10.
i want the stainless (brushed stainless) and i want the adjustable fiber optics front and rear sites.
the only draw back is not having the 22 mag cylinder but then i have that already on my old Herbert Schmidt 22/22mag pistol and ive never used it so..... meh.
