I am considering a New Model Ruger Single Six in .22 LR for a fun and teaching revolver for my seven-year-old son and myself. I would appreciate any opinions and info on this model from you lads.

Ruger's SA revolvers is strongly build and reliable. Single six comes with .22RF and .22 magnum cylinder and you can shoot two caliber in one gun. You can also consider the Bisley model which has a slightly different shape grip and more comfortable to hold - but a bit heavier than the non-Bisley.

I have a Single Six and I love it. I use it mainly for Bullseye right now. Very nice gun, with a small grip, so good for the young lad. Myself I switched the grips for the Hogue model with finger grooves, so the gun would fit my hand better. I have adjustable sights on mine which are great also.

I've had a Single-Six for over 20 years.. It's a fun plinker. I think Ruger excells in this particular area of firearms production, altho I don't care much for most of the Ruger pistols I must admit that the old "standard" 22cal automatic is a super plinker.

Crimson Trace makes Lasergrips for (I think) both the Ruger Single-Six and the 22 Standard Automatic.

You can't go wrong with a Single-Six.

Best Wishes,
JP

Good value for money, very safe, and fun to shoot. Also, it can be dry-fired without any worries of damaging the gun. I think it is a perfect gun for a young beginner.
