Ruger "sr-22" field strip

When taking the upper and lower apart some models have to use a fair bit of force to get them to seperate the first time. It seems that the black finish puts the tolerence specs into the red.
 
I tried disassembly without removing the top 4 screws, no dice. I've read that it can be done so i'll be trying again this weekend but the first time around they were stuck together tight enough that I didn't want to pry them apart and break anything.
 
I too tried stripping without removing the upper block. The tail portion of the rail prevents the receiver from pivoting out with upper installed. Unless there's another way to strip it, I'm thinking of lopping off the rail overhang. Doesn't do anything, just gets in the way.
