Hi,

Looking for some opinions on the SR-22 vs. the 10/22.

I already own a Savage Mark II, now looking to grab a semi-auto .22 to expand the family. I am definitely looking for tacticool, so the 10/22 would get thrown into an ATI, Archangel or Troy AR kit pretty quickly. The 10/22 seems to be the way to go for customizability, but quality seems to favor the SR-22.

I can't decide whether it's worth spending the extra money on the SR-22, or on accessories for the 10/22. I plan to purchase a Henry Lever 22 in the future, but looking for the tacticool black rifle look for now since I have the Mark II already. Eventually planning to get an AR, but ok with plinking the non-restricteds for now.

Any advice would be appreciated. Also if anybody knows if Boyd's ships to Canada, or where to get Boyd's stocks up here, that would be great.

Thanks guys

Happy Shootin'

If you are looking to upgrade to an AR style stock for a 10/22 anyway, save your money and get the SR-22. If the AR look doesn't matter then get yourself a cheaper 10/22.
Same gun, different look.

the SR-22 has a 10/22 inside of it.
its just a aluminum shell that the 10/22 sits inside of.
it is a very nice and solid shell but at the end of the day its a 10/22 just like every other 10/22.

i picked one up 2 months ago and i love it, solid and does exactly what i wanted it to do.
i was lucky, they had them on sale at a couple places so i picked one up new at the LGS for $630.
that was definatly a cheaper way to go than picking up a 10/22 than an after market stock and such.
but if your forced to buy one full price for over $800..... than i dont know.

they are super nice guns though.
love mine, wish i had picked it up sooner, had been eyeing one for a couple years.

I had one it's nothing special, a pain to take down and clean. Extra weight from the non functional ar style hardware.....might as well save the extra money it cost and build out a normal 10/22. But to each their own...most people buy them and swap parts off them to style them to their personal taste anyhow.

lets do some math for interest sake.

Nordic 3 piece 10/22 set = $160US
AR pistol Grip (Hogue) = $20US
Free Float Handgaurd = $100US
Butt Stock = $85CAN
Total $449 plus shipping so say $50 = $500
than your gonna need a 10/22 = $340
your gonna need a SR barrel Dlask = $210
Flip up sights like the ones on the SR = Magpul front and rear $90
Total = $1140 plus some shipping on those last couple parts, so id guess around $1200 all in just to make what you can get with the SR for $800 regular price.

Don't take it the wrong way, I'm a Ruger fan and still have two ruger .22lr and the numbers thing can be sliced either way to make it look good or the other way too.

800 for the sr22 and start swapping grips and stocks and adding a scope and bipod ect and your over a grand and it's still a 10/22....the flip side you can start with a compact for 300 and a bx trigger, magpul stock and scope ect and your around the purchase price of the sr22....can do a basic 10/22 to your taste for the same amount as a stock sr 10/22..... no matter what way you go it's still a 10/22.

And as for a Boyd's stock there's definitely not a point in buying an sr22 if your going that route.

No matter what way the op chooses you'll be happy my 10/22 run like a champ, eats any ammo, great for the wife and new shooters.

Appreciate this, makes things pretty clear. Looks like I'm in the market for a SR-22

I noticed you mentioned tacticool, if you are looking for that and want a mag over 10 rds, consider the ISSC Mk 22.

If you are OK with a 10 rd mag, then SR 22 all the way. Be forewarned, they can be highly addictive.

I bought a 10/22 went the tacticool route with a short factory barrel, AR style stock, flash hider trigger job bolt release rails flip up sights and the costs are WAY up there.

Absolutely love my 10/22, absolutely hate how the RCMP castrated it!!!

I can only use 10 round mags = SUCKS!!!!!!

I hate these mags so much I dropped 600.00 on a GSG STG44 and it is my new FAV gun!!!

Its all metal and wood and I can USE 25 round mags again!!!

Idiotic laws and idiotic RCMP!

I have a 10/22 dressed up in a tactical stock and I like it, as others have said it does make it heavy though

The 10/22 has been rock solid for me and excellent accuracy even when feeding it low end ammo

I considered the SR22 but wanted a certain look so decided to do my own thing. I`d be scared to count up what I spent in the end but I`d bet the SR22 would have worked out cheaper....

I also have a brand new GSG-15 (never fired - yet) which I bought pretty much as a result of the dumb 10 round 10/22 debacle

Why buy a gsg-15? I don't follow.
