I would like to see them fix the loose tolerance issues with the full size before turning out more unrefined 1911's.

and +2 for the 9mm sr1911 id buy one of those also
( and a little birdie also let me know that there is also a ruger sr45(3801 stainless, 3800 black) in production as well as a 22/45 light in black(3903) not that ugly goldish colour )

Yeah, I'd likely go for a commander sized SR1911 in .45ACP.

And one in 9mm in either full size or commander size, too.

Still wish they'd bring out the SR1911 in a nice blued finish, though.

You have to love Ruger's marketing strategy though. Likely have had this compact model in the works for sometime. Likely already a couple shop model/tool room pistols kicking around, too. But put the bug "out there" and start the hype. Let the internet do your work. Pretty soon everyone is chomping at the bit & on the bandwagon to get one. Then start full production after you have convinced the huge wave of 1911 fans that they just "have to have" the latest 1911 offering. Magic.

I mean that the slide to frame fit was loose. Holding the pistol, the slide could wiggle side to side. I had not seen one this loose in any 1911 I had handled previously. That being said people love their ruger 1911's and it has very little effect on accuracy and no effect on reliability from what I understand. More of a cosmetic complaint than anything...

Mine is not at all loose in any way. It's the only one I've ever handled though so I can't say how common the loose issue may be. Jeez that sounded bad. Talking about my ruger 1911 of course.

I'm really tempted by the Ruger, but every time I look at one, I see it making a trip to the gunsmith for a "bit of this" and "a bit of that" and then getting sent to Murdoc for Nitron coating - then I think I'd be better off just getting a Les Baer - which I won't do 'cause they cost too much. It's like a causal loop - the universe is out to get me.

I have no issues with my SR1911. The best $699.00 I've ever spent. There is no noticeable play in the slide (mfg: Aug 2012). One thing on my handgun after 350 rounds, is the trigger has got smoother with a more crisp letoff....go figure!

for the price and what you get , you cant find a better 1911 .45acp on the market as a new gun

Agreed. I have 1911's that range from $400 (norc which I hate) to $4000 (Nighthawk Costa)

The Ruger is by far the best value per dollar

I thought 1911's functioned better when they were loose, and worse with super tight tolerance. It's what I heard, so don't poop on me if I'm wrong.

When I ordered mine I opted for the black finish for a little extra $$$$$. All in it was 1029 shipped and taxed. I haven't taken any pictures of it as the ones murdoc posted are much better than I can do.........

Not the best pics but they will give you a good idea. I personally think that these pistols when Nitron finished look much richer than in the factory stainless. I think if they were a higher polishh stainless they would look better as well.

I heard similar but I think there's good rattle and too much rattle? I'm told as long as the barrel and bushing are fitted properly ie no play, the the slide rattling shouldn't make a diff.
