Ruger Sr1911 front sight dovetail size ?

I was just wondering if anybody knows the dimensions of the front sight dovetail cut. I know that this is a novack style cut but I need to know if its .330" wide or .331" wide. Any help would be great.

I'd just buy the .331" sight and fit it to the dovetail with a needle file. You want a friction fit so it doesn't shoot loose.

that was my first idea, but I figured that one of the nutterz would know for sure. After 2 Ruger front sights in under 1000 rounds I am not going that route again. Now I just have to find a front sight that I like and is available in Canada, so far Fusion is in the lead as they have a sight that is pretty close to the factory sight that I like.

I have an Ed Brown tritium on mine - works well. I have also had a Fusion Fibre Optic front on it before as well.

The new Fusion sights have a small pinhole that you use as a guide to drill a hole thru the slide to "stake" the sight into place then fit the fiber optic rod. The staking of the sight remedied the nasty habit they had of working just a "tiny bit loose" in the dovetail thenlaunching itself for greener pastures... I was staking the sights in myself for several years before Fusion got wise to it.

One last suggestion: when milling a new dovetail - the trick is to "sneak up" on the last pass and stop just a "smidge" from going all the way through. That last little "smidge" gives a nice tight friction fit and with a staked in pin that front sight will not go looking for "greener pastures".

Also, once fit I throw a bit of green loctite at it to make sure it doesn't shoot loose.
