I own a 2 year old Ruger SR40 pistol that only has 360 rounds through it. The last few times at the range, I am having issues with the magazine ejecting quite often during the recoil.
At first I thought I was hitting the right side of the ambidextrous mag release, so I tried different holding positions, tried shooting left handed, tried different magazines, had other people shoot it ... all the same result. It does not release the magazine consistently though, but quite often. Sometimes I could shoot 10 rounds with no issue, the next 10 rounds the magazine will pop out 3-4 times.
So I think the problem is the magazine latch and/or latch spring is not strong enough and getting flexed during the recoil.
I contacted Ruger in the USA and was referred to their repair shop in Quebec who told me that it is out of warranty and will charge me $65/hour to fix it.
Before I go ahead and get any servicing done, I just wanted to ask if any other SR40 owners had this issue? If so, what was the fix?
Thanks!
Jeff
