Ruger SR45 or Ruger American 45

I am fortunate to own a brand new (now 100 shots fired) Ruger American in .45 auto.

LOVE IT!

Latest technology and design coming to market in 2015.
Two grip straps to size. Fits my hand perfectly with the medium.
Low recoil design has it shooting like a 9mm.
Mags are easy to load to maximum.
Flawless operation. Wish I could afford more ammo more often.
Fast field strip for cleaning in seconds.
Installed a Crimson Trace laser - simple to shoot accurately.
Handsome design IMHO.

I own the SR45. I have loved it since first shot. It's very accurate and has been very reliable. Hickock45 reviewed the Ruger American in 45. Pretty thorough.

My vote is for the SR series. Grip fits my hands perfectly, I like the sights and the look of the gun.

When I held the Ruger American, I was surprised how heavy it was.
Also the balance is a little awkward for me. Its very top heavy and feels kind clumsy in my hands. I think all the weight is in the slide
The trigger break on it is decent but the reset its reeeally long and you almost have to let the trigger come back all the way before you can take another shot

Inversely the SR series have a magazine disconnect safety which I'm not fond of, and the loaded chamber indication is too obtrusive for me.

Was deciding the same a week ago and went with the Ruger American because of SR45 bad reviews. Still waiting for reg. cert so haven't shoot it yet. I choose it because of positive reviews and its solid build.

I've read the same thing. Problems with the SR45. Seems the new Ruger American is being positioned as a duty or service pistol.

This thought occurred to me as well.
But be assured that when you have a clip of 230grn 45's loaded in the gun, the balance while shooting is Perfect imho..

Also Ruger did design the Ruger Amercian for service/combat duty, as it is also referred to by Ruger as the Pro Model (no external safety).

A little extra weight in the slide, etc. is there because this pistol IS designed and built for a steady diet of +P and +P+ ammo.

I shot 75 rounds through mine yesterday. Love it more and more as I shoot it.
My shooting skills finally have me shooting 1.5 inch groups at 10 yards....from time to time..!
