Ruger Standard problem

Hey guys,

Bought a nice little Ruger Standard (the first model, before even the mark I) here for only $170... shoots straight but when I took it out, a lot of times it doesn't re-#### when the slide cycles. I would've thought I'd assembled it wrong, but it does fire one or two shots, and feeds ammo reliably, that's not the problem. When you pull the trigger though, often there isnt even a *CLICK*, there's no spring tension on the trigger at all.

Thoughts? I'm gonna take it to the smith at Shooter's Choice, unless anyone has heard of this before...

Sounds like the hammer is following the bolt home. Sear or hammer might be worn, or might just need a good cleaning.

To answer questions:
- I cleaned it very well before re-assembly. Not too much lube, just enough.
- Have tried American Eagle, and Federal. Hi Velocity, 40 grain ammo.
- The pistol DOES chamber a round afterwards... but as I said, I then dont even get a *click* when the trigger is pulled.

Hold the trigger to the rear and #### it, make sure you let the bolt fly, don't ride it foward, release the trigger and pull - does the hammer drop? Do it a bunch of times.
Hitzy might be right; but when I had a sear problem it'd run away. Might be the disconnector.

Make sure the pin retaining the firing pin did not fall out. This can cause the firing pin to ruine the breachface. It shouldn't cause the gun to fail to #### but who knows.

Thanks for the advice.. tried holding the trigger and working the bolt... now here's something: once I work the bolt, the trigger has no spring tension (ie nothin happenin when you pull it) but when I work the safety on then off, THEN I get a *click*

Actually, once the safety is worked, it'll go click with the safety ON or OFF... not very comforting.

I'm thinking that it's time for your Ruger to visit a gunsmith. I've got a feeling it needs parts.
Call Ruger, in the USA and ask them how to proceed. I say this because Ruger doesn't release some parts, except to authorized service centres. And Ruger has (or had, at least) the reputation of doing lots of work on guns that get sent back, often installing all new factory parts, and charging cheap.

I don't know where the original poster is located; but, I'd think about getting a membership at a range in the US, then get a 'form 6' from the BATFE and taking it to the range there. While you are in the US, send the gun to Ruger. Your 'Form 6' should cover the re-exporting (or un-importing) of the gun, yes?
All you'd need to do is get an ATT to the courier's depot if they don't deliver it to your home.
