Any actual experience with the difference between these 2 out there?

Wondering if the weight and bulk of the target model stock and barrel setup is appreciably more accurate for practical varmiting?

I am refrring to the new 580 series rifles of course.

My target model will shoot Federal Gold ammo into an inch @ 100, That's all I've tried in it as I still have lots of these on hand. I rebarrelled my standard model to .204, but have only fired a few rd. from it. Mark

Testing a target version has also yielded excellent performance with groups as low as 1/2" at 100yds.

I really don't think a sporter can match that.

I was very skeptical but that barrel tuner does make a difference in this rifle.

I have also changed the gas port and bedded the rifle. General tweaks to make it run better.

I shot two groups under 1.5'' at 100m out of a stranger's Target Mini with PMC 55 grain ammo. I was very surprised at the groups. I haven't shot any of the 580 series minis but I doubt they would shoot anywhere near as well as that. I am still tempted to pick one up for myself.

I had both, the target shoots MOA, I didn't even adjust the harmonic balancer, the standard model is way off, sold both since the target is too heavy and the standard model is too inaccurate. Here you have it.

Love my plain Ranch rifle. It's the t**s. Just got it, but what a hoot inside of 100 yrds standing :D

And more than accurate enough for my purposes (full size targets)

I bought my Target model after playing with another that belonged to a friend. His was an honest 1MOA gun using the cheap Winchester white-box stuff. Mine is not quite there, but close enough. It was too heavy...I had the barrel chopped and re-crowned at 18.5 inches, which completely removed the coarse threading for the muzzle weight. I was able to achieve just as much adjustability and accuracy using the Limbsaver rubber donut gizmo slipped over the barrel.

I now have a Mini-14 with enhanced accuracy, just as short and handy as the standard model and only slightly heavier. It's just about perfect on coyotes at no more than 250-275 yards, which is a long shot in the areas I hunt them. It wears the Hogue stock...the laminate (like my buddy's) is stiffer and probably more accurate because of that, but it is much heavier and, for me at least, not very comfortable. I'm toying with the idea of stiffening the Hogue stock by glass-bedding into the forearm a carbon fibre arrow shaft.

I've owned and enjoyed probably a half dozen Mini's over the years. This one is the best so far.
