A few years ago I had purchased a beautiful Ruger M77 mk2 30-06, Stainless Synthetic, with the Ultra Light stalk. I gave it away as a gift a while back....now I am interested in getting another one. Found out Ruger doesn't make the stalks now...curious to know why?

Can anyone shed some light on this delema?

Ralph,
Are you referring to the Skeletonized synthetic stock with "RUGER" moulded into the rear stock ? Often referred to as the "Canoe paddle" stock.
These were replaced by the Newer "Full Contour" synthetic stock, most likely a marketing thing as Most folks found the "Original" ruger syn stocks Ugly:)

I too like the old "canoe paddle" style stock. My 308 is the 'old style' and I will be 'converting' my new 7mm RM to the canoe paddle stock - I got it for free and I will be experimenting with a paint job on it to give it a more "custom" look... I will post pictures when it's done if anyone is interested.

:D

I like them and would like to see your custom job. Never warmed up to other synthetic stocks but I was young and impressionable when the canoe paddles came out. ;)

Thanks for the info guys. Now I guess I have to look for a used Ruger with the "canoe paddle" stalk. If anyone has one for sale or knows of anyone for sale can you all PM me? Thanks a bunch.

Yeah, yeah. Keep in mind some of us are on a budget. Those kind of upgrades take time.;):D

Besides, what do you care? You're a Remington guy.:p

:D

ps: Nice to see you've changed your avatar theme back. ;)

save the extra month or two or six or whatever it takes. I know I would, to avoid plastic handles for my rifles. They are gross.

It better not be nice and look cool or I'll be pissed:mad: I knew I should have kept it:p :D

I have to admit walking the Yukon hills and mountains with that Ruger Ultra Light Synthetic Stalk - or - "canoe-paddle" as some had described...LOL...it worked out really well. That rifle took 5 Bull Moose, 2 Caribou, 3 Black Bear. I was very sad to see the rifle go to my buddy, but a guift to a great friend is a good thing. HAHA...now that I am hunting again...I want it back...HAHA.

Till the day I find another one.......
Keep a smile on guys!

Don't know about forestock stiffness, but I had a few brought in broken at the wrist. Ruger was good about replacing them.
In fairness, I've seen other makes of injection moulded stocks broken in the same area.

my canoe stock is fairly stiff in the fore end. it has three cross bolts sandwiching a insert on both sides. it takes quite a bit of forse to try and twist it.

I have a cano paddle too, It has one of the stiffest forarms on a plastic stock that I have seen. it also has a slimmer profile than most of as well. One downside is it does not seem to handle recoil very well. could be that used hockey puck recoil pad, my 338 was really uncomfortable to shoot (off a bench), had to get it ported. a buddy had one in 30-06 that was not too pleasant to shoot lots either.
