Ruger makes ugly centre-fire pistols, I don't know much about their reliabilty, some people swear by them, but I would prefer the BE over them, nicer looking pistol and more parts compatibility. They are basically a clone of the CZ design.

IMO the Ruger DA/SA trigger on their P-Series pistols is the most undersirable aspect of their guns. I have a KP89DC, and even through I've only been shooting since January 2007, I can shoot out the middle of a target at around 20 yards, hit clays at 100 yards, and the gong at 200 yards with it at PoCo.
I have fired more than a couple of thousand rounds of 9mm handloads that I have made in the few months that I have owned my P89, and I have never had a FTF with it.
The only mod that I did was to replace the factory grip panels with a set of Hogue grips. With the exception of their triggers that you have to really get used to, I think Ruger makes exceptional firearms. Since January, I have acquired the P89, a 6" stainless .357MAG Security Six revolver, a MK III 22/45, and a 10/22RR...but the .40 cal that I'm looking for to get into IPSC with will definitely be a different brand of autoloader.
Oh yeah...I'm a lefty, and I like the ambidexterous features of Ruger autoloaders. Good luck.
On bad thing that I don't like about Rugers is their customer service in Canada. This has nothing to do with Ruger themselves, but because I'm across the border from their factory. The rear sight on my P89 broke for no reason one day while I was cleaning the gun, and ordering a replacement for it has taken months with the Canadian rep telling my retailer that the part was "back ordered" from the factory with no ETA to Canada. After being frustrated for so long, I finally called Ruger directly, and they were surprised by my situation and the story that I was getting. They said they were going to send me a rear sight free under warranty, and they were going to try and remedy the situation.

Its funny how much people on this board bash Ruger anything . They might not be a good looking as the BE ,but are cheaper ,I guarantee the customer service will be quicker and easier ,also these handguns will probably be there with the cockroaches.
Ruger firearms just work .....
Not saying I know better than others on this subject but rugers are solid ,reliable and relatively cheap to buy guns .
