Hello. I just bought a used ruger m77 mark 2 stainless .308. I am wondering how long it would be till i would have to replace the barrel and what would the best load to put through it. Thanks:sniper:

The barrel should provide satisfactory hunting accuracy for 250 boxes of ammunition or more.
Best load? What are you hunting?

nice choice of gun :)

i know a competition shooter that replaces his barrels around 3000 rounds or when he detects a slight accuracy dropoff -- at which point other people generally buy those barrels and probably put another 10,000 rounds through them with no problems.
for just general hunting purposes a modern barrel will easily outlast both you and your kids' lifetimes.

Is it the hollow stock or 'canoe paddle' as some call it or a normal looking synthetic stock? If its the later its no more than about 4 years old. Like said above I wouldn't worry about wearing it out any time soon either way...

For loads try a few obviously. I've got the same rifle - 2006 model and have settled on 165 gr Hornady IL for deer. Shoots them very well at just under 2" high at 100 yds, on at 200 and about 8" low at 300 yds where it groups around 2". :) 165 tsx would be a good moose bullet to try..

Ya it is the Canoe paddle stock. I got a super deal on it from a local gun dealer. I am also looking for some gun dealers with websites in Ontario if you know any

I have the same gun with the canoe paddle stock. I love it and it has served me very well over the last 8 years I have owned it.

My .308 likes a 165gr bullet and IMR4064.

I wouldn't worry about replacing the barrel, these guns are built well and if you take care of them, your great-grand kids will still be hunting with the same barrel.

Enjoy!

I always liked the speer 150 grain magtip in my 308. Cheap to shoot and flattens deer. I can't remember the load but I also used IMR 4064
