Ok guys looking for a little guidance here. I've had a certain ruger no 1 in 22-250 in my sights for sometime now and the owner finally gives and catches me off guard says "ok how much will you give me?" Thinking that he had a price already figured out I asked "How much do you want" ok so neither one of us knows what would be considered a "fair" price. A quick search on google and you will see they go anywhere from $300-$900. The serial number on this indicates it was shipped in 1978 and he says he bought it brand new. The scope on it he says is "about" 30 years old and is a Leupold 12x, only problem is I can't identify which model it is. Now that being said the gun itself is in very good condition and is beautiful. One thing that catches my eye on this rifle is the barrel is blued yet the receiver is purple, any ideas? If all goes to plan I'm taking it out Saturday to put it through the paces to see how she shoots and hopefully it shoots as good as it looks. Any help here would greatly be appreciated.

Oh and to give you an idea how long its been since he last shot this gun he gave me half a box of the ammo he was using.

Interesting rifle. The purple color of the reciever is caused by metallurgical differences in the steel. I can't remember if its a high zinc or nickel content but VZ58 recievers do the same thing. No idea on price though.

The scope is an M8 series 12X. Scope is probably in the $275-$325 range. The rifle is probably in the 550-600 range. Final price is always whatever can be agreed to.

Thanks for the input guys. The owner called me this morning to tell me he'd be happy with $450. I'm still going to take it with me Saturday to go test it but I think its safe to say it'll be joining the others in my safe.
