Pet peeve rant here ..... While there's a lot I do like about Ruger rifles, don't you think they could do a better job with the shape of the bolt handle and the inletting for that bolt handle?

The inletting looks it was done by a toddler with a chainsaw and the whole deal is just plain deal breaking ugly.

I ve always liked the butter knife bolt handles on sporting rifles and wish more gun makers offered them.I think they would of been a perfect fit on their 77/22 RSI and 77 RSI rifles
 
A few years ago before Covid when you could buy most Ruger MK IIs and Hawkeye’s for around $1000 or under, I would’ve told you to suck it up! You’re getting a well built, rugged rifle, with CRF, 3 position safety etc. But sadly, now with the current prices I can understand the nitpicking.
 
Had a Ruger RSM .375 H&H for a while. Ruger stuck that same goofy looking bolt handle into a much chubbier stock. It didn't look good but a more serious flaw was that it was difficult to grasp the bolt knob because it was not sticking out far enough. Not what you want in a dangerous game rifle. Ruger assumed "one size fits all" but that model obviously required a longer bolt handle.

Rising prices has been placed on every product, it dosen't reflect that the quiality will increase. Inflation is a euthesism for GREED. Personally, the Ruger bolt action is my least favoured in North America however, to the other extreme; the Ruger #1 is the most pleasing elegant rifle in North America. Again, their prices increased, not their increase in quality. Case-in-point, original #1's had much full grain and fiddleback wood, not as much in todays single shots.

Since we have a rant thread; I like the older tang safety Rugers better. I think they look better, though the grip is a bit small for my hand. I'm kicking myself for not keeping the last one, an RSI in .308.

For a brief time I had a MK II in .338. I got rid of it, primarily because somebody had put a brake on it, but I never could get the bolt slicked up to match my Mausers, and there were big gaps in the inletting around the action.

Ending on a positive note, I now have a 77/22 that's becoming one of my favourite .22's. The action still isn't very slick, but it's a short throw so I can live with it. I also had to do a bit of trigger work.
 
The shape of the bolt handle ( or the safety, or the stock, or etc, etc ) is a cosmetic design feature You don’t like it, Joe does. Joe buys the Ruger, you buy something else, just like buying a car. Rugers are made to compete in the market with Winchester, Remington, etc. Design features set them apart but they are all good, well made reliable guns. Want higher quality, smoother action, nicer wood, more features? Open your wallet, buy what you like, quit complaining.
