How good are Ruko scopes?

My grandfather's rifle has had the same scope on it since he first bought it and it hasn't been sighted in since. The last time we took it out and test fired it, the scope had still held zero for about the last 40-45 years and it's certainly seen better days (including being to the bottom of a lake.

The scope is still 100% clear and the crosshairs are as fine as the day they were made.

Rudolf Koppe, the president, spec'd the scopes from the Japanese supplier, and they were one of the best lower-priced scopes ever offered in Canada. They sold for about the same price as Weavers.

I sold several thousand of them during the years I worked for RUKO of Canada Ltd. We used to tell the dealers to display one submerged in an aquarium. Some of you old guys may remember seeing them like this. Customers could take the scope out of the water, dry them off, and look through the scope. Sometimes, the customer wanted to buy the one that had been submerged! :D

Rarely did any ever come back for warranty. They were a great scope.
