Running a gun wet. Questions

An AR should be able to run 2000 rounds without cleaning but it will still need some lube every so often. Strange that yours needs a cleaning. Have you tried pulling the BCG and just giving it a quick wipe then a little fresh oil?
Running really dirty ammo like Norinco will require lube a little more often but the rifle should still cycle.
I like rifles like my PWS, it is factory cerekote (inside the receiver as well) which has some lubricating properties so that rifle doesn't seem to need lube as often, I installed a nickel boron BCG in one of my other AR's and it seems to work really nicely as well and needs less lube than a standard BCG to keep on cycling when dirty.

nope I always run good ammo, it has a match chamber though so its tight.

Good stuff!! I guess piston system AR rifles these days don't have rotating bolts and bolt carrier groups that slide on metal. Some sort of magnetic ride system? I don't run my AR wet because I'm afraid of the lube burning off or the carbon. I actually do so with all my firearms, including piston system firearms. You have metal on metal. I try to reduce the amount of friction/wear regardless of the system.

The additional benefit is I just have to wipe down my firearms after shooting and no scrubbing. Takes no time at all to clean.

it all depends on use between cleaning and what type of chamber you have

when I go to the range for a full day and I do some drills on steel targets with an AR it is very common for me to run 600-800 rounds through one in between a cleaning session.

When my mk12 reaches 500 rounds i can sense the bolt having some trouble, at 700-800 rounds i get some stoppages.

So taking a can of clp and blastig it in there at 500 rounds makes me go to 800 without stoppags. After 800 forget it, it needs proper cleaning.

Some guys say i can run my AR 2000 rounds without cleaning it without any stoppages... I have never experienced that in my life, and I run some top ARs.

Try a Norc? (JK) - I'll spray into the E port if the gun is feeling graunchy, and cycle it a few times. This would be in the over 500 round bracket. I use a liquid lube which drains/disperses itself pretty quickly and carries away loose debris.

I find with DI ARs after 5 hours or so running in rainy/wet conditions especially on slightly cooler days, the guns start to get sluggish sooner, like after 300 rounds or so.

Piston guns (Cz, Sa, H&K MR556, etc) and Norc ARs tend to keep chucking even in wet cold conditions.
The Norc bit is going to upset some and cause a riot.

After normal field stripping and cleaning, I coat all parts liberally with Mobil 1 5W20 oil. A 1L can lasts many years and I've never had a stoppage due to lack of lubrication. Some of my AR's have 10,000's of rounds through them without any problems. AR's like to run well lubricated. Mobil 1, or any synthetic oil, works great especially in cold temperatures and has excellent lubricating qualities.
