As the topic says I am getting low on Speer 50 gr TNT that are explicitly used in my .222 this bullet has always been accurate and impressive on varmit hits. Is there anything else you would suggest for same results keeping in mind .222 velocities.

TIA

SCG

I’ve had tonnes of success with the Hornady 50 gr. VMax boooolit on ground hogs at all kinds of .223 and .22-250 velocities. I kinda reload so that I don’t burn out my barrels. :eek:

The dead and dying groundhogs cannot distinguish between 2800 fps versus 3100 fps. Hahah ah a :evil:

Peace Be The Journey!

Cheers, Barney

Hey SC I recently acquired a 700 in .222. Just in process of load development with this exact bullets. Would you mind PMing what loads have worked for you? Unfortunately it’s way too cold to test my loads. But I could load up a few more to try. Totally understand if you’d rather not.

I always had great results from plain old Hornady 50 gr SX. They were accurate and anchored large groundhogs reliably. While the 52 gr HP of various makes were accurate, they never worked well on game.

For those using the 52 or 53 gr how is impact on small varmits? The TNT’s were devastating, leaving a mist. Plus the other beauty was zero ricochet. Not often but occasionally important.

Granted this is from the Speer website. That said this has been my experience as well;

"... prairie dogs, or calling yotes, you can count on Speer® Varmint Hollow Points to deliver explosive performance and excellent accuracy.
-Hollow-point design provides explosive performance
-Impressive accuracy
-Great terminal effect on varmints

whether I use the 52gr speer hp or their 50gr tnt I can't really tell the deference except for the price
