Russain sniper scope

If I was going to put a scope on any of my SKS's then this design is about all I would use.

Kalinka optics has some nice ones as well.

The optics are quite good on the Russian scopes and they are very very durable. For the price they can not be beat. I had a 6x42 POSP back in the day and loved it.

Couple of remarks. POSP is a nice inexpensive scope. It made by former military production facility but by no means POSP is a Russian military issue. It is not Russian at all as the matter of fact :) - it made in Belorussia. There is a choice of reticles and some of them there mimic sniper reticle with the rangefinder, grid in "thousand's" etc. Some reticles have ballistic marks for the appropriate rounds.

It is a bit of a lottery, but there are many people who are happy with their POSPs. By the sound of it Metropolis, you have got a good one - enjoy it. Besides at that price it might be worth of trying it anyway.
I would try it, but I do not see a reason to scope an SKS - kinda defeats the purpose as I see it..

It has a rail that mounts onto the side of the receiver, you have to cut a little bit of a notch in the stock to make it fit. The scope is detachable from the rail. I have not mounted it yet. I was wondering if any one has one, did you need a case deflector?

This is the kalinka with 1" integral rings with side plate. Good company to deal with but the item is heavy and crudely made. Never did install it

i like to get one too , was it shipped from ontario or eastern europe?

It was shipped from Europe in a well packed box, it came with a soft case also. I still haven't mounted it yet, but will post when I "get r done":D

By putting a spacer in between the rail and receiver, you will also need longer screws.
If you want the scope to sit nice and low, you must cut a small piece of the wooden stock out.

Michealsabre: could you explain how to mount it offset as I thought the side mounting rail puts the scope in centre?

i would put a shell deflector to protect the scope on mine regardless cos my sks tends to eject a shell straight up every 20 rds or so . so therefore cant load with stripper clips but i can load from underneath, making sure the rounds are in place properly or get a plastic duck-bill mag.

Thread dredge...

Had a POSP once, early one with the IR filter even.

Great scopes those POSP descendants, and pretty solidly built, but the range knob is calibrated for 7.62x54R in 50 meter increments. So, unless your round has the same trajectory, you're SOL.

I don't know how long it's going to take these guys to figure out Minutes of Angle, but I hope they do it soon. They build great stuff at great prices, mostly, but why, oh, why can they not build what the market wants? 15 kinds of POSP is not what we need.

Quite a contrast with IOR Bucharesti who started from about the same point and are now way out in front of the pack with technical innovations and quality/price.
