Picked up a 1949 Russian sks recently , its a late 49 from what I gather with blade bayo and refurb stock , mag doesn't match. Its a refurb but the main metal parts are all matching and look to be original. Figured I would post a few pics and get peoples opinions on her good or bad , thxs.

I personally like it. Many early features, early dust cover, takedown pin, 90 degree gas block. Not 100% original to 1949 components, however it is still a nice SKS.

Does it have the spring loaded firing pin still?

Very nice, basically it is mostly correct, excluding the stock (I suspect it doesn't have a triangular cut out for the spike bayonet?) and bayonet (likely switched with the stock so they wouldn't have had to carve out the replacement stock, but this is just a guess).

No triangle cut in stock. From my strip down and what I can gather it is exactly like you say , everything original or correct except stock , bayo and mag.

Wow, great find! I'd love to find one that close to original. Where did you stumble across it, if you don't mind me asking?

Wow, great find. I imagine it cost a small fortune because the ones that I found were heavy refurbs for $600-750.

That was the advertised price for the two heavy refurbed 49's I came across. Can't speak for any others. I think Weimajack had a heavy refurb '49 he was asking $269 for(?) a while back as well but I passed on it because I want one as close to factory as possible...not holding my breath though.

They do seem rare or uncommon I should say. I've only seen 2 and this one I bought, needed it for the collection. The other I saw wasn't for sale and had refurb mark (square with line diagonally through it) on the dust cover and trigger group wasn't original. Stock was incorrect and refurb too. I'd love to see or buy a completely original non refurb , slim chance these days I figure.

Its a nice 49. I got one once with a blade bayo, refurb ofc. i got 4 1949, sold 3 kept one with the original stock and spike bayonet, refurbed as well but not heavy, original barrel and mag. Now a nice 1949 refurd with spike bayonet cost $600-$700, i sold one last year for $650.

Good info Joce , thxs. Decent value on these for a SKS then. I knew a 49 was more sought after and had a little more value depending on all the factors (refurb, heavy refurb, all original , mint etc) but in the $500 plus range is good.

Wait till you see what some of them went for in the USA... I will try to find the gunbroker link, where one went for 7k+ US.

What are they worth these days? I picked up a 1949 Tula refurb with the spike, 90-degree gas block, unpainted firing pin, numbers match (for all that's worth) for $260. I suspect it wasn't worth much since there's no serial number stamped on the stock - just the Tula star and a pair of cartouches I haven't been able to identify yet.
