Russian .22 ammo

At one time, target ammo with the dimple in the centre of case. Federal copied it when they made high quality ammo.

When I was a kid, I received a Belgian Browning T bolt 22 for Christmas one year. Dad brought home a spam can of russian 22lr, it was in a blue and white 50 rd cardboard boxes inside the can. Shot just fine, absolutely filthest stuff on the planet. Extremely greasy/waxy to the point you would have to continually wipe your hands on a rag after loading each time, haha. Left the bore filthy as well, also smelled terrible when fired, but it always fired and the price was right, seemed accurate enough.

In the late 60s and early 70s we would buy boxes of 50 round Russian 22 ammo for 50 cents, almost pocket change, the bullets were black as were the cases. You had to watch out for lose ones when chambering in out trusty Cooey single shots. Ammo came in a cardboard box and went bang for most part from the box. There were the also occasional oh shi$ it’s stuck again moment. Bought at one of the then numerous army surplus by babes in the snoods with no papers
We used to buy 50 rd. boxes at a Zellers store in North Bay in the early 70's for well under a dollar a box as you have stated, labelled Vostok if I remember.
Used to head over to the local Dairy Queen between high school exams for a burger and then hit Zellers on the way back. No questions asked except your age from the guys behind the counter. Greasy, stinky stuff but worked well in my Cooey repeater.
Ahh..the good ole' days indeed.
