Russian Capture K98 "red finish"

Don't use any solvents then as they can break down the glue. Go with what MauserMike suggested. But the method that I use is:

1st) Number 000 steel wool to get the most off .
2nd) Then once your down to bare wood spray down with alcohol to curl up the really fine fibers then go to the number 0000

I find these two methods work best on a RC.

Use a paint brush and Circa antique furniture stripper (this will not remove any markings on the stock) and wipe it off with fine steel wool. Then depending on if it is laminated or hardwood, you can use a 5% iodine solution to bring out the grain or colour, then rub the entire stock down with natural bee's wax.
Do not use boiled linseed oil to refinish a k98k stock.
PM me if you want the complete instructions.
