I went to Ukraine, Poland, and Russia a few years ago and decided to purchase some WWII medals, after buying one, one of the tour guides told me the more valuable medals have serial numbers on the back. After hearing that all I bought were medals with serial numbers on them. Going to the airport to come home in Ukraine my bag is on the scanner, I get pulled off to the side and had my bag opened and I was then told valuable historic items are not allowed to leave the country, I had all the medals with serial numbers confiscated and I was given a pretty decent fine. They asked me if I had anymore but I didnt think I did, little did I know when I got home the rarest medal which was part real gold was still in my bag! and obviously I still had the one other medal without a serial number on it. I dont know how well you can make out the serial number on the back, but it is there.

I didnt know where else to post this... so enjoy!

I'd really hate to think that your confiscated medals would find their way back to the market, sold to unsuspecting tourists, to be re-confiscasted at the airport.:D

I mean, if that gov't was sincere, they would have warned all tourists before they enter the country, in no vague terms what can and cannot be bought and taken out of the country.
