Russian or Yugoslavian?

What would I be gaining by buying a Yugoslavian M59 at $489 over a Russian refurb at $250? Which is the better one & what is the diference between a M59 & a M59-B?

How bout a Russian refurb for 180$?


The Russians are all round nice have chrome lined barrel, the Yugos are very well made and have excellent fit and finish but non have chromed bores so they can be more accurate but not by much.

Russian.....Izzy if you can find them, all others are Tula. I have '54 Tula that is really accurate and a pleasure to shoot. For the price, you can get two Russians for the price of a Yugo, which is why I don't have a Yugo!

The Yugos are nice but they're not 2-3 times the price nice. There were fewer of them made so they command a bit of a premium on that fact alone, but they typically appeal only to collectors who appreciate the differences. For blasting at the range any SKS will do you well, be it Russian, Yugo, Chinese, etc. Typically if you have to ask if the Yugo is worth it, you don't know enough about them for it to matter so the short answer is no.

I get the impression that I offended you. I wasn't implying that you shouldn't ask, nor was I suggesting you were without knowledge. I was suggesting the Yugo is likely not worth a premium to you because you seem unfamiliar with the finer details that make it collectible.

I have and would recommend the 59/66a1 yugo sks. Thats the one I have and I like it significantly more than my friends tula sks. But then again i do have some pro-yugo bias .

Actually, I'd say Chinese to abuse/Bubba, Russian to use/collect, Yugo to collect/use. I wouldn't put a big premium on a standard M59, The M59/66 with the grenade launcher is the one I'd get for a collection.

The 59/66 is a gorgeous rifle - feels a lot more like a Garand balance wise. They also have the ultimate tactical accessory NATO 22mm spigot launcher.

After getting out of SKS rifles, the only one I miss is the Yugo. It was not in the same league as the Russian or Chinese models in terms of fit, finish, and accuracy.

I remember firing it and noticing that it tossed the empties just a few inches - then I noticed that the valve was in the grenade launching position (slightly eroded?). Very cool rifle.
