So I'm watching this documentary, mainly because there are Russian rifles to see...

However, although it apparently takes place in 1917, many of the rifles look like M38 and M44 carbines. Weren't those made in 1938 and 1944, so they wouldn't exist?

Or were there other carbine versions of the Mosin-Nagant that would have been around in 1917?

They were making carbines before 1917. Although not in numbers as later 91/38 or m44. I don't remember what was their designation. Probably cavalry carbine 1904 or 02. It looked similar to M38 but shorter barrel and no globe sight, would not take up bayo either and was only issued to mounted troops like Cossaks.

I'm pretty sure I saw some M44's in this documentary... That was during re-enactment scenes of course, not in the actual war footage.

Mosin fans would probably get a kick out of watching this. Lots of Mosins...

I watched this on netflix a while ago, I noticed alot of m44 and 91/30. Still a good documentary
